SATURDAY JULY 25th, 2015
"Scotty, beam us up to East Aurora!"

The Fisher-Price Collectors Club held our annual convention on July 24 - 25, 2015. The convention followed the pattern of the prior conventions - the dinner was on Friday, and the sale on Saturday. We had a lower turnout this year, as many regulars could not come, but we made the best of it and had a pretty good time overall.

FRIDAY JULY 24, 2015: Social Hour and Dinner

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm: We had the sale set-up and Social Hour at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 43 Pine Street. Please note that this is our LAST YEAR using this location; we are not returning to this venue. Board members held their annual meeting after the set-up. Social hour was fun, as we got to meet some newer club members, one who worked for the Fisher-Price factory. Always great to chat with former employees!

6:00 pm - 8:00 pm: Our annual club dinner was be held at the American Legion Hall in East Aurora NY. This is the same place we used last year, also the club held swap meets here many years ago. The price was $22 a person this year, and about 30 people were able to come, which is pretty good knowing how many long-time members were not able to make it this year! The food was served buffet-style, and included salad, rolls, chicken, vegetarian cheese lasagna, potatoes, mixed vegetables, beverages, and dessert. Dinner lasted about 2 hours, and everyone chatted away about their lives, their collections, their families and whatever else came to mind! We also heard from one of our newest members who worked at the Fisher-Price factory, which was fascinating to hear some of his stories!

This year, as our main event, Audrey volunteered to "do her magic" and plan an activity. And what did she come up with? Little People Musical Chairs! Yes, you heard that right! How did the game work? Everyone was divided up into 2 large groups; and everyone got a Little Person. We set up Little People chairs on a table (a real-size table, that is) and Audrey sang some music. When the music stopped, everyone had to place their Little Person in a chair, and the one person who did not get a chair, was "out"! Then we removed a Little Person chair, and continued on until we had our top 3 winners! The top winners got to choose from some Fisher-Price prizes and related items. It was a ton of fun, everyone had a great time!

RAFFLE PRIZE: Every year, the club has a raffle which we draw the winner at the sale. This year's prize was Toyfest's 1990 Pracing Horses, and was won by a club member from Massachusetts who was not present this year. Yes, you don't even have to be present to win!

9:00 am - 3:00 pm: On Saturday, the Fisher-Price Collectors Club held our annual Collectible Toy Show and Sale at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 43 Pine Street in East Aurora NY. The sale was part of the East Aurora Chamber of Commerce's Main Street Festival Sidewalk Sale, which takes place across the parking lot from the church. Please note that THIS IS THE LAST YEAR AT THE CHURCH, as the club will no longer use this venue for the sale. Like always, the sale is very much open to everyone, general public and club members alike.

The sale was a little smaller than last year, but we picked up 2 more vendors right before the sale, which greatly helped fill the room with merchandise. As always for sale, there were tons of Little People figures, parts and pieces; many boxed sets; many wooden pull toys; and quite a few of the very early FP wooden toys too! One vendor was selling mainly FP plastic food (most in original boxes), plus cassettes and booklets (this vendor was selling out her remaining collection, and sold quite a bit!). There was plenty of foot traffic at the beginning, and the sale even had a group of buyers from South Africa come (they were visiting Canada and wanted to bring some toys back with them!) - wow!! Overall the sale did OK, though it was pretty quiet in the afternoon.

For 2016, the dates are set for Friday July 29 and Saturday July 30! Due to a variety of reasons, the club will be using a new venue for the Saturday sale - the Masonic Lodge on Main Street in East Aurora. See the Toy Sale Page for more information! For club members, see the Convention 2016 page for club events!
