Collectors, What an Awesome Weekend!

The Fisher-Price Collectors Club's annual convention was held on

Friday July 26th, 2013 and
Saturday July 27th, 2013

in East Aurora, NY. This was the club's 20th anniversary and we had a very nice turnout this year!

Hello club members! Convention 2013 was held over the weekend of July 26 - 27, 2013. This was the 20th anniversary of the Fisher - Price Collectors Club - yes, it's been 20 years since our founder Jeanne first formed the club, bringing together people who collect Fisher-Price toys. On Friday we had a social hour at the Lutheran Church on Pine Street which included 6 new club members and their families who came for the first time! Many of us met online so it was great to finally meet in person. And cookies and juice for all!

After the social hour, we had our annual dinner at the Village Cafe. 35 people were able to attend, including our founder Jeanne. The dinner was buffet-style with roast beef, vegetable medley, a vegetarian dish, fruit, bread and rolls, and good old mashed potatoes and gravy. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, we bought a huge cake and had Jeanne cut the first piece. After eating, we had door prizes and our sharing and caring award and general announcements. And then we had the highlight of the evening - a game of Little People Bingo! Yes, one of our club members (who is a teacher) created the game and brought prizes for the first 12 winners! Of course, a couple of our pull-toy collectors were worried and said they don't know anything about Little People, but their tablemates helped them play along! Prizes included FP catalogs from the 90's, and FP ornaments from the 80's. Overall it was quite a fun night - the collectors know how to party (especially that table in the back on the left - yes you know who you are!!)

The sale was held on Saturday at the church, as part of the sidewalk festival going on outside on Main Street. This year we had slightly less vendors at 8, but they brought lots of stuff! Right around opening we had 20 people lined up to come in. The initial rush was quite busy - lots of Little People collectors looking for those missing pieces they always wanted! The sale had plenty of Little People parts and pieces and boxed sets, wooden pull toys from the 60's and before, plus plenty of other older FP toys. Even some Chunkies and Huskys and Adventure People. Lots to see! After the initial rush of diehard FP fans, we had steady stream of people all day until closing, many people coming from the street sale outside. We had quite a few parents come with their young children, wanting to buy "real" toys that were made in the USA (and these parents were thrilled to point out to their kids "Hey, I had that when I was little!"). And the club members who came chatted all day about their toys and collections, as usual! It was a fun sale as always, and the sellers were happy with how much they sold. Afterwards the club members all said their byes for this year, and hope to see you all again next year. Many of us chat on Facebook, so it's far easier to stay connected through the year now!
